The Indian Whisky Market
The Indian Whisky Market With a population of a billion people and a growing middle class of 300 million people, India is the largest whisky market in the world, selling approximately 70 million cases in 2005/2006. The United States, the second highest selling market, sold only 45 million cases. In 1998, Indian whisky sales were not more than 38 million cases. Some projections have sated that by the year 2009, it will cross 100 million and by 2015, the trend indicates that it will boom to 180 million cases. Growing at over 10%, the liquor industry in India is very promising for new comers. With the combination of liquor companies aggressively marketing quality products and as state excise regulations being more and more liberalized, the industry has a very healthy and promising future. Though there are big players in the industry, there is plenty of scope for new companies. But the secret to success is in providing good quality. The Indian consumer is no longer uneducated about alcohol. They know what is good and what is not! People are looking for good quality and value for money and that is what our products offer.
